All regular events such as Open and Gymkhana Shows are always FREE. The public is welcome

Plenty of free parking for spectators is available in the field at the head of the show ring. Horse trailer parking for participants is available on the opposite end of the grounds

Bleachers, benches, picnic tables and grass areas for lawn chairs are available for a good view of the show ring

Children's Play Area
A small designated playground is on site for the kids who want a break from the horse show

Bathroom Facilities
There are four outhouses equipped with toilet paper and hand sanitizer - two on each end of the show grounds

Food Booth
"Momma Cayer's Kitchen" is open during all regular events, usually one hour prior to start of event, with full menus for breakfast and lunch  learn more

Picnic Area
Adequate picnic table seating is available under the pavilion next to the food booth to eat and take a break from the sun

Show Ring
A large dirt show ring is the center of attention on the show grounds where all the action is. Spectators have plenty of "up-close" spots to see everything!

At Ellis River Riders, we have game shows and open shows. Our open shows are Western and English Pleasure and Equitation. Our game shows have barrels, poles and other types of classes. We have all levels of riding from walk - trot to senior novice. If you join then it is a $25 single member fee or a $30 family member fee. (Join NowAs a member in good standing (paid dues), you are entitled to the following benefits:

  • Discounts on member book advertising fees 
  • Camping/paddocks sites (subject to availability) 
  • Unlimited use of the show grounds and arena for practice 
  • Unlimited use of miles and miles of maintained trail systems 
  • Voting privileges during the annual General Membership meeting (in November) as well as for the general election of officers. 
  • Entitled to join any or as many committees as you wish 
  • Entitled to run for a seat on the Board of Directors or seek appointment to chair a committee
The classes are $5 for members or $7 for non-members. Each show you pay a $10 trophy fund fee and a one time charge of $1 for a number for each horse you ride.  These are yours from that time on. Please note that proof of Negative Coggins & Rabies Certificates are required for horses to enter the showgrounds. In accordance with Maine Law Title 7 M.R.S. Section 1820-A, Coggins and Rabies vaccinations are required for all horses on grounds as follows: Rabies vaccines every year. Coggins results with a “stabled-at” address outside of Maine are valid for a period of 1 year, while results with a “stabled-at” address inside of Maine are valid for a period of 3 years. Copies of such records for club files are expected to be mailed in advance of events/ overnight stays and originals shown on at the time of arrival prior to unloading. Horses without the proper paperwork will not be allowed to participate in the day’s events or remain on grounds, so PLEASE be prepared!

Our grounds consist of the riding ring, practice ring, food booth and  pavilion, a 20-stall barn, which is available free of charge on a first come basis. We have water for the horses. We also have overnight camping for shows and seasonal camping for members. There are tons of trails from the grounds and we have several organized trail rides scheduled this summer. If you are a member, you are allowed to use the grounds at any time unless there is a show.
